Fulcrum Recruitment is working with a well-established UK contractor that is looking to appoint an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial function for a busy infrastructure delivery operation in West Yorkshire.
This is a senior commercial leadership opportunity with a specialist contractor delivering highways, bridges and structures maintenance work across major road networks, local authority frameworks and tier-one contractor environments.
The business has been established for over 30 years, employs more than 300 people across multiple regional offices and has a strong reputation in specialist infrastructure maintenance, repair and refurbishment.
The Role
As Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will act as the senior commercial lead for a busy regional operation, taking responsibility for commercial governance, NEC contract administration, change control, reporting and financial performance.
You will report to the Commercial Director and work closely with the local Operations Manager, senior leadership team and wider project delivery teams.
The role will also involve managing and mentoring a small Quantity Surveying team, including junior and apprentice-level commercial staff, while helping to strengthen best practice across live projects.
Project Types
The contractor delivers planned and reactive highways and structures maintenance schemes, including bridge repair and maintenance, deck waterproofing, expansion joints, bearings, concrete repairs and wider highways maintenance works.
The business also provides early contractor involvement, design support and specification input to help develop practical, buildable and commercially robust solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial function across a busy highways and structures maintenance operation.
- Manage NEC contract administration, including early warnings, compensation events, change control and CEMAR or CE registers.
- Oversee applications, cash collection, interim valuations, final accounts, invoicing and resolution of client queries.
- Produce and manage turnover, margin budgets, forecasts, commercial reporting and senior management updates.
- Review contract and subcontract terms, manage commercial risk and support dispute or claim resolution where required.
- Work closely with pre-contract, estimating and operational teams to support bids, project award, mobilisation and delivery.
- Identify cost savings, value engineering opportunities and margin protection measures across live projects.
- Line manage, mentor and develop Quantity Surveyors, supporting performance, development and progression.
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, Managing Quantity Surveyor or senior commercial lead within civil engineering, highways, infrastructure or specialist contracting.
- Strong NEC contract knowledge, with confidence managing change, compensation events, commercial governance and contractual processes.
- Proven ability to lead people, support operational delivery and influence project performance through strong commercial management.
- BSc, MSc or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline would be beneficial.
- Strong reporting ability, good MS Office skills and confidence handling commercial, contractual and financial information.
- Professional, organised and discreet approach, with the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
- Flexible approach to travel as required by the role.
