Manual Machinist - Milling & Centre Lathe | LE15 Based | Temp to Perm
Salary: £35,000-£38,000 per annum, depending on experience | Monday - Friday 8-4 (Early finish on Friday's)
Barker Ross are looking for an experienced Manual Machinist to join our workshop team and carry out high-quality general machining work using manual milling machines and centre lathes.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled machinist who takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality components and is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
* Set up and operate manual milling machines to produce components to drawing and specification.
* Set up and operate manual centre lathes for turning, facing, threading and other machining operations.
* Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
* Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds and feeds for different materials and operations.
* Carry out accurate measurements using micrometers, verniers, gauges and other precision measuring equipment.
* Produce one-off and small-batch components to drawing tolerances.
* Inspect finished components to ensure they meet required quality standards.
* Carry out general workshop duties, including machine maintenance, housekeeping and tool care.
* Work safely and maintain a clean, organised and professional working environment.
Requirements
* Previous experience working as a Manual Machinist.
* Strong experience with both manual milling and manual centre lathe work.
* Ability to work from engineering drawings independently.
* Good knowledge of machining techniques, tooling and materials.
* Confident using precision measuring equipment.
* Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a workshop team.
Desirable
* Experience machining a variety of materials, including steel, stainless steel, aluminium and other engineering materials.
* Experience with one-off, prototype or small-batch work.
* Relevant engineering/machining qualifications or apprenticeship.
