D R Newitt are delighted to be partnering with a well-established engineering and manufacturing organisation that supplies precision-engineered products and services to a range of industrial sectors across the UK.

Due to continued growth and a strong order book, we are looking to recruit an experienced Manual Turner to join their workshop team based in Hillington, Glasgow.

This is an excellent opportunity for a time-served engineer who enjoys precision machining, varied workshop projects, and working within a busy and technically challenging environment.

The Role

As a Manual Turner, you will be responsible for the manufacture, repair and refurbishment of precision-engineered components, supporting the overhaul and maintenance of industrial equipment.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Setting and operating conventional manual centre lathes
  • Manufacturing and refurbishing components to precise engineering tolerances
  • Working from engineering drawings, technical specifications and sample components
  • Machining a variety of materials including carbon steels, stainless steels and specialist alloys
  • Carrying out repair and refurbishment work on worn or damaged components
  • Inspecting finished work using precision measuring equipment to ensure quality standards are met
  • Working closely with engineers and workshop personnel to determine suitable machining and repair methods
  • Completing workshop documentation and inspection records accurately
  • Supporting continuous improvement activities and maintaining excellent housekeeping standards
  • Working safely and promoting a positive health and safety culture at all times

What We're Looking For:

  • Time-served Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
  • Proven experience operating manual centre lathes within an engineering, manufacturing or repair environment
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Experience machining components to tight tolerances
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
  • Flexible and proactive approach to workshop activities
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
  • Strong commitment to health, safety and continuous improvement
