2020 Recruitment are delighted to be working with our North Ayrshire based client who are looking to add a Manufacturing Estimating Engineer to their team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer, Estimator or Machinist looking to take the next step into a more commercial and customer focused role.

Working closely with the Commercial, Sales, Manufacturing, Procurement and Engineering teams, you will be responsible for evaluating customer enquiries, developing manufacturing routes and producing accurate estimates and quotations for machined components and complex bills of materials.

The Role

As the Manufacturing Estimating Engineer, you will play an important role in determining the most effective way to manufacture customer requirements, taking into consideration cost, quality, capability, lead times and available resources.

You will work from customer drawings, specifications and technical information to develop manufacturing routes, establish material requirements, obtain subcontract pricing and ensure quotations are technically accurate and commercially viable.

The role would suit someone with a strong manufacturing background who understands machining and production processes and is looking to develop their career within estimating, commercial or sales.

Duties & Responsibilities

As the Manufacturing Estimating Engineer, your duties will include:

• Building and maintaining the Parts Master database, including BOM structures, in line with customer specifications

• Reviewing and manipulating BOM structures to reflect the proposed manufacturing method and supply requirements

• Developing the most effective manufacturing route based on cost, schedule, lead time and manufacturing capability

• Reviewing customer drawings, specifications and supporting documentation to produce accurate quotations and estimates

• Using company systems and ERP software, including EFACS, to generate estimates and quotations

• Establishing the most appropriate Make vs Buy strategy in conjunction with Procurement

• Developing manufacturing routes including estimated production times and processes

• Specifying raw material dimensions to ensure the most efficient manufacturing route

• Obtaining quotations for raw materials and subcontract services

• Identifying subcontract requirements including welding, coating, spark erosion and other specialist processes

• Working closely with subcontract suppliers to establish the most effective manufacturing and quality processes

• Maintaining EFACS with accurate routings, costs, stock parameters and estimated delivery information

• Supporting the ongoing development and improvement of the estimating and quotation process

• Carrying out contract reviews with relevant stakeholders to ensure technical capability and compliance with customer requirements

• Supporting RFQ activities, including obtaining pricing from subcontract suppliers

• Ensuring any deviations from customer drawings or specifications are clearly identified and documented

• Attending internal PPM meetings on behalf of Sales and Manufacturing

• Ensuring customer RFQ deadlines are met

• Supporting the preparation of customer quotations by technically evaluating enquiries and generating accurate estimates

The Candidate

To be considered for the Manufacturing Estimating Engineer role, you should have a strong manufacturing background and ideally previous experience within Manufacturing Engineering, Estimating or a similar role.

The role could also suit an experienced Machinist who is looking to move away from the shop floor and develop their career within estimating, commercial or sales.

You should have a good understanding of manufacturing processes, machining and production methods, along with the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.

You will also need to be commercially aware, highly organised and comfortable working to customer deadlines.

Key Requirements

• Previous experience within manufacturing engineering, estimating or a similar manufacturing environment

• Alternatively, an experienced Machinist looking to progress into an Estimating, Sales or Commercial position

• Strong understanding of manufacturing and machining processes

• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and customer specifications

• Excellent attention to detail

• Strong organisational and time management skills

• Self-motivated with a proactive approach

• Strong communication skills

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team

• Commercial awareness and an understanding of cost, quality and lead times

• A strong can-do attitude with the ability to meet deadlines
