My client is leading UK engineering and manufacturing. As part of our continued investment in operational excellence and digital transformation, I am looking to recruit a Manufacturing Engineer to support the implementation of Microsoft Dynamics Business Central and drive manufacturing process improvements across the business.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Manufacturing, Process, or Production Engineer who enjoys working closely with the shop floor and making a tangible impact on efficiency, quality, and manufacturing performance.

The Role - Manufacturing Engineer 

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the manufacturing data, routings, bills of materials, work instructions, and build packs that underpin production operations and support our ERP transformation.

Working across fabrication, machining, and assembly, you'll capture valuable shop-floor knowledge and convert it into repeatable, documented processes that improve quality, reduce waste, and drive operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities - Manufacturing Engineer 

  • Develop and maintain manufacturing routings, bills of materials (BOMs), work instructions, and build packs
  • Support the implementation of Microsoft Dynamics Business Central by preparing and validating manufacturing data
  • Analyse production processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce non-value-added activities
  • Work closely with fabrication, machining, assembly, quality, planning, and engineering teams
  • Create detailed shop-floor work instructions and manufacturing documentation
  • Define assembly sequences, tooling requirements, inspection stages, and testing procedures
  • Support engineering changes and ensure manufacturing documentation remains current and controlled
  • Conduct root cause analysis on recurring quality issues and implement corrective actions
  • Develop realistic routing times to support planning and capacity management
  • Assist with make-versus-buy decisions and value engineering initiatives
  • Drive continuous improvement projects across manufacturing operations

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • Degree, HND, Apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Production Engineering
  • Proven experience as a Manufacturing Engineer, Process Engineer, Production Engineer, or Industrial Engineer
  • Experience creating:
    • Manufacturing routings
    • Bills of Materials (BOMs)
    • Work Instructions
    • Manufacturing documentation
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
  • Strong understanding of fabrication, machining, or mechanical assembly processes
  • Experience working within low-volume, high-mix, bespoke manufacturing environments
  • Strong organisational and project management skills

Desirable

  • Experience supporting ERP implementations (Microsoft Dynamics Business Central preferred)
  • Knowledge of pressure vessels, defence, aerospace, or regulated engineering sectors
  • Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, 5S, Kaizen, or TPM experience
  • Root Cause Analysis techniques such as 8D, 5 Why, or Fishbone
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks or other CAD systems
  • Experience specifying tooling, jigs, and fixtures
