Our client is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to act as the technical interface between customers, engineering and manufacturing, supporting new business opportunities, project launches and the successful delivery of customer requirements.
The Role
Reporting to the Technical Director, the Manufacturing Engineer will play a pivotal role in reviewing customer enquiries, assessing manufacturability, preparing technical quotations and supporting the introduction of new projects into production.
This position requires a strong understanding of CNC machining processes, engineering principles and customer requirements, along with the ability to work collaboratively across commercial and operational teams.
The successful candidate will help ensure that new opportunities are accurately costed, technically viable and delivered efficiently from enquiry through to production.
Key Responsibilities
- Review customer RFQs, drawings, specifications and technical requirements.
- Assess component manufacturability and identify potential manufacturing challenges or opportunities.
- Define machining routes, cycle times, tooling requirements and production methods.
- Liaise with customers to clarify technical requirements and provide engineering support.
- Work closely with Design Engineers, CNC Programmers and Production teams to support project launches.
- Prepare APQP and PPAP documentation for NPI
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reduction and value engineering.
- Assist with feasibility studies and capacity assessments for new projects.
- Participate in customer meetings and technical reviews when required.
- Ensure all quotations and project information are documented and maintained accurately.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and manufacturing functions.
Candidate Requirements
Essential
- Proven experience in an Applications Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Production Engineer, or CNC Engineering role within a precision machining environment.
- Strong understanding of CNC milling, turning and machining processes.
- Knowledge of CAD/CAM software and CNC programming principles.
- Experience with APQP, PPAP and customer project launch processes
- Experience interpreting complex engineering drawings and customer specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Desirable
- HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Production Engineering.
- Experience within automotive, rail, heavy vehicle, construction or precision engineering sectors.
- Understanding of IATF16949 and ISO9001 quality standards.
- Ability to estimate manufacturing costs, cycle times and production methods.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of manufacturing cost drivers.
- Confident communicator with the ability to engage with customers and internal stakeholders
