Role Overview
EMBS Engineering, are recruiting for an experienced Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead a team of manufacturing engineers and an estimator within a precision engineering environment. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the day-to-day delivery of manufacturing engineering activities, ensuring processes are robust, standardised and consistently delivered to a high standard.
The successful candidate will drive a proactive, process-led approach to manufacturing engineering, ensuring the function operates efficiently and never becomes a bottleneck to production. This role also plays a key part in bridging the gap between manufacturing engineering and the wider engineering department, improving integration and anticipating incoming work.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage a team of manufacturing engineers and an estimator, allocating workload, monitoring progress and developing team capability.
• Establish, maintain and continuously improve standard operating procedures and structured workflows across the manufacturing engineering function.
• Manage Design for Manufacture reviews and Manufacturing Acceptance Reviews, ensuring designs are manufacturable, testable and ready for release.
• Oversee New Product Introduction activity in line with APQP requirements, including PFMEA, control plans and process flows.
• Maintain accurate manufacturing data within SAP, including routings, bills of material, production versions and inspection and test plans.
• Manage Engineering and Manufacturing Change Orders, ensuring changes are logged, assessed and implemented in a controlled manner.
• Act as a proactive link between manufacturing engineering and the wider engineering department, anticipating incoming work and supporting smooth handover.
• Prepare and review manufacturing cost estimates, support make/buy decisions and develop business cases for capital expenditure.
Essential Requirements
• Substantial experience in bespoke or low-volume precision engineering or advanced manufacturing, ideally within a regulated sector such as nuclear.
• Proven experience managing and developing a technical engineering team.
• Strong technical understanding of machining, fabrication, welding, inspection and assembly.
• Experience working with SAP manufacturing data structures, including routings, bills of material and production versions, along with a good working knowledge of MRP.
• Experience with APQP, PFMEA and New Product Introduction processes.
• HND or higher qualification in Manufacturing or Engineering.
• Working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor and PDM/PLM systems such as Autodesk Vault.
• Eligibility to obtain UK security clearance (SC).
Desirable
• Existing SC clearance.
• Previous experience within the nuclear sector or another highly regulated industry.
• Experience applying structured problem-solving methods such as 8D, DMAIC or 5-Why.
