A long-established UK defence engineering manufacturer — with over a century of experience delivering high-integrity mechanical and structural systems to global defence programmes — is growing its North West Engineering Centre of Excellence and looking for a Manufacturing Facilities Engineer to join the team.
This is a broad, hands-on role with genuine ownership at its core. You’ll be responsible for site infrastructure, maintenance strategy and overall facilities performance — keeping a complex, safety-critical manufacturing environment running efficiently and in full compliance.
The Role

You’ll span capital projects, maintenance systems, contractor oversight and continuous improvement — working closely with production and engineering teams to cut downtime, strengthen asset reliability and lay the groundwork for long-term operational growth.
Key Responsibilities
• Developing and managing a rolling three-year facilities and infrastructure plan in line with business needs
• Leading CAPEX and improvement projects from initial justification through to completion
• Overseeing external contractors and suppliers, ensuring compliance, safety and performance
• Managing day-to-day site facilities, maintenance and infrastructure activity
• Maintaining full compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental regulations
• Implementing and managing preventive maintenance programmes to maximise equipment uptime
• Conducting inspections, audits and risk assessments, and addressing issues before they escalate
• Supporting production and manufacturing engineering to maintain operational continuity
• Developing and optimising the site’s CMMS
• Driving continuous improvement and raising facilities standards across the site
What We’re Looking For
• HNC/HND or equivalent in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Facilities Engineering
• Strong knowledge of PUWER, LOTO and general HSE requirements
• Experience delivering facilities-related CAPEX and improvement projects
• Practical experience with CMMS systems and contractor management
• NEBOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification
• Strong communication, planning and problem-solving ability
Desirable
• Multiskilled engineering background or maintenance supervision experience
• Project management qualifications (PRINCE2, PMP) or Lean/Six Sigma training
• Experience with BMS/BAS systems and CAD tools
What’s on Offer
• £45,000–£55,000 salary
• Pension: 4% employee / 7% employer contribution
• Half-day Fridays
• Life assurance and enhanced sick pay
• Employee Assistance Programme and wellbeing initiatives
• Long-service awards and additional holiday entitlement
• Free on-site parking and EV charging
• Cycle to Work scheme
• Clear and structured career progression
A permanent opportunity to take real ownership of facilities at a world-class defence manufacturing site — backed by over a century of engineering excellence and a business that’s investing for the long term.
