Manufacturing Support Assistant

Stockport | Permanent | £28,000 – £30,000 DOE

A well-regarded defence manufacturer in Stockport is recruiting a Manufacturing Support Assistant to join its Manufacturing Support team on a permanent basis.

This is a hands-on, varied role where you'll work closely with Manufacturing Support Engineers to help keep a fast-paced production environment running effectively. Your time will be split between creating and maintaining technical documentation, drawings and process procedures, and providing practical day-to-day support across the factory floor. You don't need to come from an engineering background — what counts most is attention to detail, a technical mindset, and the drive to get things done.

The Role

• Creating and maintaining AutoCAD drawings for cutting tools and factory layouts

• Generating and manipulating 3D models to support offline programming

• Writing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and operator set-up documentation

• Producing set-up drawings and supporting imagery as required

• Reviewing and assisting with operator set-up procedures

• Ordering tooling for machines and operators

• Maintaining tooling and fixture drawings

• Updating routings in SAP, including operation narratives and cycle times

• Creating and maintaining project plans

Essential Requirements

• Able to read and interpret engineering drawings

• Competent across the Microsoft Office suite

• Good general computer skills

• Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Well organised, reliable and able to manage your own workload

Desirable Skills (full training available for the right person)

• AutoCAD for 2D drawing creation

• CAD software for 3D modelling

• SAP or ERP systems for routing creation and modification

• MS Project for project planning

• Familiarity with problem-solving methodologies

What We're Looking For

The technical skills matter, but so does the person behind them. We're looking for someone with a practical, positive approach — organised, switched-on and proactive, with the confidence to adapt when priorities shift and the initiative to spot a better way of doing things. A solid work ethic and professional attitude will take you a long way in this team.

This is a permanent, site-based position in Stockport, reporting directly to the Manufacturing Support Manager.
