Manufacturing Test Engineer | On-site (4-5 days per week)

Security Clearance: British Citizens only due to security level requirement.

Our client, a leading name in the defence sector, is looking for a Manufacturing Test Engineer to join their Manufacturing team, supporting test and diagnostics of electrical/electronic sub-systems and circuit cards during the early phases of the product lifecycle. You'll provide test engineering support and technical input to concepts and early development prototypes, helping ensure programme targets are met to agreed time, cost and quality requirements.

The Role: You'll be working with a small team of dedicated engineers in a fast-paced but friendly and inclusive manufacturing environment - a team spanning apprentices and graduates through to experienced engineers, all striving to deliver technical excellence across a number of different missile systems in development and production.

Key responsibilities:

  • Providing Test Engineering support during Design/Development phases, from initial concept through to Production Readiness Review and release to Operations
  • Supporting Test Facility introduction, ensuring appropriate configuration control of equipment and facilities, including generating supporting test specifications and operator instructions
  • Supporting testing of electrical/electronic sub-assemblies and circuit cards, with diagnosis of production test failures down to component level
  • Working closely with Operations, design teams and other stakeholders to overcome technical challenges
  • Maintaining Test Engineering functional governance while pursuing continuous improvement, in line with all programme and quality requirements
  • Working alongside test and design engineers to understand and implement the project test strategy, influencing design to include appropriate testability solutions
  • Supporting the compilation of initial process flows for new product, working alongside senior/principal engineering colleagues
  • Creating and maintaining test requirement specifications for production test equipment
  • Supporting Process FMEA activity, ensuring test mitigations are in place
  • Initialising test fixture designs for new product
  • Assisting with the compilation of new test instructions
  • Estimating test time for new product and validating related cost/reporting data
  • Supporting design engineers with functional and environmental stress screening (ESS) testing of initial prototypes

What we're looking for:

  • Minimum HNC-level qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant subject - HND/Degree preferred - plus experience in digital and analogue electronics manufacture and test
  • Good understanding of electrical/electronic measurement and test principles and test equipment, along with fault diagnosis techniques for electronic/electro-mechanical sub-assemblies
  • Experience using both manual and automated test equipment, ideally within a defence organisation or similar manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with enterprise resource planning and manufacturing execution systems (e.g. SAP, MES) for recording test activities and generating non-conformance reports and concessions
  • Ability to plan and organise your own work, prioritising and delivering multiple tasks against project objectives
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including the generation of test specifications, operator instructions and technical reports from higher-level requirements
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail

Interested candidates should apply with an up-to-date CV. Due to the security clearance requirements, only British Citizens will be considered for this role.
