Marine Operative/ Deckhand

Contract: Fixed-Term Contract – 5 months (with potential for further employment)
Shift Pattern: Rotating days, nights and on-call duties
We are seeking a reliable and motivated Marine Operative / Deckhand to join a busy port operations team. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with marine experience who enjoy a varied, hands-on role supporting marine and port activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and assist in the maintenance of marine craft
- Support vessel mooring and unmooring operations
- Assist with general marine duties including debris recovery, oil spill response and launch maintenance
- Carry out general maintenance of port facilities, equipment and grounds, including painting, litter picking and other upkeep tasks
- Maintain accurate operational records and documentation
- Support the delivery of safe and efficient port services
- Work towards Coxswain competency through the organisation's training and development programme
- Undertake additional duties as required to support operational needs
Requirements
- Previous marine, maritime, deckhand or port operations experience preferred
- Ability to work safely in a dynamic operational environment
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Flexible approach to working a rota that includes day shifts, night shifts and on-call periods
- Commitment to maintaining high health and safety standards
- Valid ML5, or ENG1 Medical
- Sea Survival, First Aid, Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting certification
Working Pattern
The role operates on a rotating shift basis, including days, nights and on-call duties:
- Dayshift: 6am-6pm: with 6am until 1pm core hours (7 hours) and 1pm until 6pm on-call
- Nightshift: 6pm-6am: with 6pm-11pm core hours (5 hours) and 11pm-6am on-call.
Additional Requirements
- Successful candidate will be required to obtain a Disclosure Scotland check
- Full UK driving licence desirable
- Eligibility to work in the UK is essential
- A flexible approach to working hours and emergency call-outs is required
