Maritime Engineering Technical Superintendent
CCL Global is seeking three experienced Maritime Engineering Technical Superintendents to support a major UK public-sector maritime organisation.
This is a hands-on technical role responsible for supporting the operational performance, maintenance, compliance and availability of a diverse vessel fleet. Candidates must bring substantial marine engineering experience, ideally at Chief Engineer or equivalent level.
Location: Hampshire , Full time on site.
Contract: 6 month contract (Inside IR35)
Security Clearance: CTC required
Travel: Occasional UK shipyard/boatyard travel with expenses and overnight accommodation covered.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee vessel operational performance and forward maintenance planning.
- Provide technical direction to Chief Engineers and Vessel Managers across planned and unplanned maintenance.
- Diagnose complex machinery and engineering issues and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Maximise vessel availability through effective maintenance and usage planning.
- Ensure compliance with Class, Flag State, IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code and ISO requirements.
- Monitor regulatory changes and assess their impact across the fleet.
- Manage relationships with shipyards, suppliers and specialist engineering contractors.
- Develop technical requirements and specifications for vessel maintenance periods and contracted works.
- Review vessel engineering and maintenance standards through ship visits and operational assessments.
- Identify non-conformances, continuous improvement opportunities and fleet-wide lessons learned.
- Support procurement, commercial and purchase-order activities relating to maintenance and defect rectification.
- Undertake assurance visits alongside Health & Safety and operational teams.
Essential Experience
- Significant marine engineering experience working with maritime vessels.
- Previous Chief Engineer, Marine Engineer, Technical Superintendent or equivalent experience.
- STCW Certificate of Competency – STCW III/2 or STCW III/3.
- Strong knowledge of vessel machinery, maintenance and engineering operations.
- Strong working knowledge of Class, Flag, IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM and ISO requirements.
- Project management experience.
- Experience managing vessel maintenance, defects and technical contractors/suppliers.
- Ability to provide authoritative technical advice to vessel engineering teams.
- Strong stakeholder management and problem-solving capability.
The successful candidates must be comfortable working five days per week on site and travelling to shipyards or boatyards when required.
