Our client Wigan Council is looking for a MASH Deputy Team Manager to join their team.

Job Purpose

To support the Team Manager in leading and managing the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH), ensuring timely, proportionate and high-quality safeguarding decision-making for children and families. The post holder will provide operational leadership, professional supervision, quality assurance, and performance management while promoting effective partnership working with statutory and voluntary agencies.

The Deputy Team Manager will ensure that safeguarding referrals are appropriately screened, assessed and progressed in line with legislation, statutory guidance and local safeguarding procedures.



Key Responsibilities



Leadership and Management

  • Support the Team Manager in the day-to-day operational management of the MASH.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and professional support to social workers and other team members.
  • Deputise for the Team Manager in their absence.
  • Allocate work appropriately, ensuring workloads are safe and manageable.
  • Promote a culture of learning, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Lead team meetings, practice discussions and case audits.


Safeguarding Practice

  • Oversee the screening and triage of contacts and referrals concerning children at risk.
  • Ensure threshold decisions are timely, consistent and evidence-based.
  • Provide management oversight and authorisation of safeguarding decisions.
  • Ensure statutory timescales are met.
  • Support complex safeguarding decision-making.
  • Ensure risks are accurately identified and appropriately managed.


Supervision

  • Provide regular professional supervision to social workers and other staff.
  • Support reflective practice and continuous professional development.
  • Identify learning needs and contribute to workforce development.
  • Support Newly Qualified Social Workers (ASYE) where appropriate.


Quality Assurance

  • Monitor the quality of assessments, decision-making and recording.
  • Undertake regular audits of casework.
  • Implement improvement plans following audits and inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory guidance and local procedures.
