Job Description – Materials Controller

Location: Crewe Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF)
Salary: £31,521
Shift Pattern: 4 on, 4 off Days (07:00 – 19:00)

About the Opportunity

Ford & Stanley are excited to be partnering with our client at their Crewe Vehicle Maintenance Facility to recruit a Materials Controller for this exciting and business-critical opportunity.

As a Materials Controller, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient flow, control, and availability of materials across the facility, directly supporting maintenance and operational activities. Working within a fast-paced environment, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate stock levels, supporting procurement activities, coordinating logistics processes, and ensuring materials are available when required to meet operational demands.

Reporting to the Stores Manager, you will work closely with a range of stakeholders to support the day-to-day operation of the Stores function. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing improvement initiatives, influence inventory management processes, and help develop a modern, efficient, and customer-focused materials supply operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage goods-in processes and ensure materials are received, checked, and stored correctly.
  • Raise requisitions and purchase orders as required.
  • Prepare materials for dispatch and overhaul activities.
  • Safely load and unload vehicles.
  • Carry out stock counts and support inventory reconciliation activities.
  • Issue materials to operational teams whilst maintaining accurate records.
  • Expedite supplier orders and monitor delivery status.
  • Ensure stock levels are maintained and accurately recorded.
  • Challenge discrepancies in stock movements and support stock reconciliation processes.
  • Monitor the utilisation and consumption of materials across the site.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping to support efficiency and workplace safety.
  • Liaise with the Stores Manager and production teams across multiple locations.
  • Ensure full compliance with company procedures, policies, and safety regulations.
Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • A strong commitment to health, safety, and safe working practices.
  • Excellent planning, organisational, and time-management skills.
  • Knowledge of materials control, inventory management, logistics, and purchase order processing.
  • A minimum of two years' experience within a Materials Controller, Logistics Coordinator, Stores Controller, or similar role.
  • A good understanding of procurement and purchasing processes.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach to work.
  • The ability to prioritise workloads and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications

The following experience would be advantageous but is not essential, as training can be provided:

  • Forklift Truck (FLT) licence/certification.
  • Telehandler operating experience.
  • Overhead crane operating experience.
  • Experience working within a maintenance, engineering, manufacturing, rail, or industrial environment.
