We are recruiting for a Materials Planner to join an established manufacturing business based in Hull. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established organisation with a strong reputation within its sector, supporting production operations by ensuring materials are planned, available and delivered in line with manufacturing requirements.
The successful candidate will join a small, experienced Supply Chain team and take ownership of supplier schedules, material availability and inventory control. This role would suit an experienced Materials Planner, Materials Controller or Supply Chain professional looking for a stable environment with genuine progression opportunities.
The Role
Reporting to the Production Planning / Supply Chain Manager, you will be responsible for managing the flow of materials into the business, maintaining supplier performance and ensuring production schedules are supported.
Key responsibilities include:
- Creating and issuing supplier material schedules within agreed lead times.
- Managing supplier communication to ensure deliveries are achieved on time.
- Monitoring supplier performance and reporting key supply chain KPIs.
- Identifying material shortages and working with Production Planning to minimise disruption.
- Coordinating material flow throughout the manufacturing facility.
- Managing material requirements through ERP/MRP systems.
- Monitoring inventory levels and maintaining agreed safety stock requirements.
- Producing forecasts for suppliers with longer lead times.
- Expediting delayed deliveries and escalating supply risks where required.
- Supporting supplier improvement activity through root cause analysis.
- Managing replacement orders and resolving material discrepancies.
- Identifying opportunities to reduce inventory while maintaining production continuity.
- Supporting the return of non-conforming materials to suppliers.
- Maintaining accurate stock records and system data.
- Supporting continuous improvement activity across supply chain processes.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience within materials planning, supply chain, purchasing or procurement.
- Experience working within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Knowledge of ERP and MRP systems.
- Strong supplier management and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work to tight deadlines.
- Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel.
- A proactive approach with the ability to identify issues and implement solutions.
- Ability to work effectively within a small, collaborative team environment.
The Individual
You will be an organised and proactive supply chain professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will be confident communicating with suppliers, managing changing priorities and ensuring production requirements are met.
The business is open to candidates from a range of backgrounds, including Materials Planners, Materials Controllers, Purchasing Coordinators and Supply Chain Coordinators. Candidates with strong manufacturing experience and the right attitude will also be considered, with support available to develop within the role.
