Maths Teacher - SEN / Specialist Education

Location: Chard, Somerset
Pay: £160 - £240 per day
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm

Maths Teacher Wanted - September Start

Simply Education is looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate Maths Teacher to join a specialist education setting in the Chard area from September 2026.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a teacher who enjoys working with young people who may not thrive in a traditional mainstream classroom. You'll be joining a supportive specialist setting, working with pupils with a range of additional needs including ASD, SEMH, ADHD and trauma-related needs.

The role would suit an experienced Maths Teacher, an educator with SEN or alternative provision experience, or someone with strong Maths teaching experience who is keen to move into specialist education.



The Role

You will be responsible for delivering engaging and accessible Maths lessons across KS3, KS4 and Post-16, adapting your teaching to suit individual abilities and learning needs.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated Maths lessons

  • Teaching Functional Skills, Entry Level and GCSE Maths where appropriate

  • Adapting lessons around individual learning profiles and EHCP outcomes

  • Using practical resources, visual scaffolding, chunking and other creative teaching strategies

  • Supporting pupils with their confidence, engagement and emotional regulation

  • Monitoring progress and identifying areas where additional support is required

  • Building positive and consistent relationships with pupils

  • Creating a calm, inclusive and supportive learning environment



What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Experience teaching or supporting Maths

  • QTS or equivalent teaching qualification

  • Confidence differentiating lessons for a range of abilities and additional needs

  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills

  • Excellent relationship-building skills

  • A patient, flexible and child-centred approach

  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable:

  • Previous SEN, SEMH or alternative provision experience

  • Experience teaching Functional Skills, Entry Level and/or GCSE Maths

  • Understanding of EHCPs and personalised learning
