Applications Engineer – CNC & Automation
£50,000 base + Car + Equipment + Bonus | Permanent
A long-established engineering organisation with a strong reputation for innovation and manufacturing excellence is looking for an Applications Engineer to support both pre-sales and post-sales technical activity across the UK.
The business is a recognised leader in high-speed CNC machining, automation systems and advanced manufacturing technologies. This is a field-based role with regular nationwide travel and occasional overnight stays — you'll be central to delivering customer training, supporting engineering projects and providing the kind of hands-on technical support that keeps machines performing and customers satisfied.
The Role
• Commissioning and setting up CNC machines for production at customer sites
• Delivering comprehensive training on machine operation and programming
• Applying production engineering knowledge to develop efficient, optimised machining processes
• Providing technical support and practical problem-solving for customer applications
• Selecting cutting tools and developing tooling strategies
• Developing fixturing, work-holding solutions and process improvements
• Identifying opportunities for product and process enhancement across customer operations
What We're Looking For
Technical
• Skilled in operating and programming 4-axis and 5-axis CNC milling machines
• Proficient with FANUC controls — operation and programming
• CAD/CAM experience
• Strong understanding of production engineering principles
• Competent interpreting engineering drawings
• Time-served engineer preferred
Personal
• Confident working independently in the field or as part of a wider team
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Able to deliver clear, effective technical guidance and training
• Committed to high standards of quality, safety and professionalism
• A strong engineering background in CNC machine tools — gained through a manufacturer, distributor, or hands-on CNC programming/operation role
