About the RoleWe are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Assembly Fitter to join a leading manufacturer of pumps used within the land drainage, flood defence and sewage industries.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be part of a skilled workshop team responsible for the assembly and testing of high-quality pump systems, ensuring customer delivery requirements are met. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a strong mechanical background who enjoys working in a hands-on engineering environment and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble mechanical and electrical components from engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs) and work instructions to produce completed pump assemblies.
- Carry out stripping, preparation, termination and continuity testing of electrical cables.
- Perform mechanical fitting and assembly operations using hand, power and pneumatic tools.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, checklists and visual work instructions.
- Complete dimensional checks, quality inspections and associated production documentation accurately.
- Operate overhead cranes and forklift trucks to move large and heavy components safely around the workshop.
- Load and unload vehicles as required.
- Work to production schedules and delivery deadlines.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
- Ensure all tasks are completed in accordance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Welfare procedures.
- Support continuous improvement activities and other operational projects as required.
Experience & Qualifications
- Several years' experience in a Mechanical Fitter, Assembly Fitter or similar engineering role.
- Experience within a medium to heavy engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Proven ability to work to production schedules and deadlines.
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Experience completing manufacturing, inspection and quality documentation.
- Good standard of education.
- Overhead Crane licence/certification desirable (training can be provided).
- Forklift Truck licence/certification desirable (training can be provided).
- Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills.
