Mechanical Contracts Manager – Regional Contractor (Education, NHS & Commercial)
Location: Regional
Salary: £65k plus excellent package and bonus
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Head of Mechanical Services to lead and grow our mechanical division across the Education, NHS Healthcare, and Commercial sectors. This is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of mechanical projects from initial enquiry through to final account, while driving business growth and maintaining exceptional client relationships.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical knowledge with proven expertise in estimating, contract management, commercial performance, and business development to support the continued expansion of our regional contracting business.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Pre-Construction
- Lead the preparation, review, and submission of competitive mechanical tenders.
- Assess project specifications, drawings, and client requirements.
- Develop accurate cost plans, pricing strategies, and risk assessments.
- Work closely with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners during pre-construction stages.
Contract & Project Management
- Oversee the delivery of multiple mechanical projects across Education, NHS, and Commercial environments.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Manage project teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and client interfaces.
- Monitor programme performance and resolve operational issues effectively.
Commercial Management
- Maintain full commercial control of contracts from award through to final account.
- Manage valuations, variations, cost reporting, forecasting, and profitability.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures.
- Support dispute avoidance and commercial risk management activities.
Business Development
- Identify and secure new business opportunities within target sectors.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with NHS Trusts, educational establishments, consultants, developers, and key stakeholders.
- Support framework applications, bid submissions, and strategic growth plans.
- Promote the company's reputation as a trusted regional mechanical contractor.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a senior mechanical contracting leadership role.
- Strong background in estimating, contract management, and commercial control.
- Experience delivering projects within NHS healthcare, education, and commercial sectors.
- Excellent understanding of mechanical building services and M&E contracting.
- Strong financial and commercial awareness.
- Outstanding communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
- Ability to develop long-term client relationships and generate new business opportunities.
