Adecco are recruiting on behalf of a leading specialist engineering manufacturer based on the outskirts of Braintree. Due to continued growth, our client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their busy and innovative design team.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on a variety of projects, from bespoke design modifications through to large-scale engineering developments and research & development initiatives. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality design solutions from concept through to production.
The Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- Producing detailed engineering designs, working drawings, assembly drawings and bills of materials
- Managing multiple projects simultaneously, both independently and as part of a collaborative design team
- Supporting new product development and R&D projects
- Creating and maintaining manufacturing bills of materials and parts lists
- Producing engineering detail and assembly drawings for production release
- Validating designs against specifications and engineering requirements
- Checking and approving component and assembly drawings
- Performing design calculations, including stress analysis and design validation
- Preparing technical reports and tolerance analyses
- Liaising with production and other departments to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable
- Occasionally visiting customer sites to assess product performance and support design evaluations
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Proven experience within a mechanical design engineering role
- Proficiency with AutoCAD 2D and Autodesk Inventor 3D
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing processes
- Experience designing steel fabricated structures and welded assemblies
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a logical and innovative approach
- High level of IT and computer literacy
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects
Desirable Experience
The following would be advantageous but is not essential:
- Knowledge of heavy fabricated structures and load-bearing mechanical systems
- Experience carrying out stress calculations and design approval activities
