Mechanical Design Engineer required for a hands-on product development role designing electromechanical equipment from initial concept through to manufacture. You’ll work across 3D CAD, detailed drawings, DFMA and production support, with designs incorporating plastics, sheet metal and machined components.

This is a good opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys seeing their designs progress from an initial idea into a finished manufactured product.

You’ll take ownership of mechanical design activities across a range of electromechanical products, developing practical solutions that meet performance, cost, quality and manufacturing requirements.

What you’ll be doing

  • Mechanical design from concept through to production release

  • Developing 3D CAD models and detailed 2D manufacturing drawings

  • Creating and maintaining BOMs

  • Designing electromechanical assemblies and product enclosures

  • Designing components using plastics, sheet metal and machined parts

  • Applying DFMA principles throughout the development process

  • Selecting appropriate materials and manufacturing processes

  • Working alongside electronics, manufacturing and other engineering teams

  • Supporting production following product release

  • Troubleshooting mechanical issues and implementing design improvements

  • Supporting the transfer of new products into the manufacturing site

  • Contributing to continuous improvement and PLM implementation

What we’re looking for

  • 2+ years’ experience in mechanical engineering/design

  • Experience taking mechanical designs from concept through to manufacture

  • Strong 3D CAD skills – SolidWorks preferred, although other packages will be considered

  • Good understanding of engineering drawings and tolerancing

  • Experience designing with plastics, sheet metal and/or machined components

  • Understanding of DFMA and manufacturing processes

  • Experience with electromechanical products or assemblies

  • Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent experience in Mechanical, Production or a related engineering discipline

Knowledge of relevant product standards and EMC principles would be beneficial but isn't essential.
