About the Role
Our client is an established Mechanical & Electrical Consulting Engineering practice delivering innovative building services solutions across a diverse range of projects throughout the UK. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join their Building Services team based in South Tyneside.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the design and delivery of mechanical building services projects, supporting schemes across sectors including Defence, Justice, Commercial, Healthcare, Education and Residential.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically capable engineer who enjoys taking ownership of projects, working closely with clients, and contributing to high-quality engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design mechanical building services systems including:
- HVAC
- Heating and cooling systems
- Ventilation
- Domestic water services
- Public health services
- Produce detailed calculations, specifications, reports and technical documentation.
- Develop mechanical designs through all project stages from concept to completion.
- Liaise with clients, architects, contractors and external stakeholders.
- Attend design meetings and site visits as required.
- Ensure designs comply with current regulations, standards and industry best practice.
- Support junior engineers and contribute to project delivery teams.
- Coordinate designs alongside electrical, structural and architectural disciplines.
- Assist in the preparation of tender documentation and technical submissions.
Candidate Requirements
Essential
- Degree qualified in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Approximately 7–10 years' experience within Building Services Consultancy.
- Strong mechanical design and specification experience.
- Proficient in industry-standard design software.
- Ability to manage workload across multiple projects.
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- UK Passport Holder
- Eligible for BPSS clearance.
Desirable
- Experience working on MOD, MOJ, Defence or secure environments.
- Ability to obtain or hold SC Clearance.
- Chartered status or working towards Chartership (CIBSE/IMechE).
- Knowledge of low-carbon and sustainable building design.
- Experience using BIM/Revit environments.
