The Opportunity:
Working within the existing design team of this quality British designed and manufactured product, the Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the adaption of existing designs on a really broad product range which is manufactured on site. In addition to your responsibilities as a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will work closely with the wider R&D team making recommendations for process improvements.
The Role:
- Product design and development – Accountable for design updates of existing products from initial concept through to manufacture, ensuring designs meet customer, technical, functional, quality and cost requirements
- Design for manufacture – Ensure products are designed for efficient, repeatable and cost – effective manufacture and assembly
- Cross-functional collaboration – Work closely with new product development teams, Production Engineering, Quality, Purchasing and Marketing to ensure successful product design implementation
- Project support and delivery – Accountable for being the technical support for R&D initiative projects, ensuring that project deadlines are met, relevant stakeholders are involved and project progress is reported
- Design risk management – Identify, assess and mitigate design risks throughout existing product design updates
- Engineering standards – Ensure designs comply with engineering standards, legislation and company procedures, liaising with the new product development stakeholders
- Continuous improvement – Provide design support for manufacturing departments within the business for optimisation, continuous improvement and cost reduction projects
- 5 years experience in a sheet metal or manufacturing business as a Design Engineer
- Degree or HND in Mechanical Design or a related Engineering discipline
- A strong understanding of sheet metal manufacturing processes, materials and tolerances would be highly beneficial as some of the role will also involve process improvement.
- Proven experience of working with 3D CAD packages and generating 2D technical drawings (ideally a knowledge of SolidEdge).
A competitive salary of £40000 dependent on experience
Company Pension Scheme, 5% contributory

Working Hours:
8.00-4.30 Monday to Friday
