Mechanical Design Engineer in London, Greater London

Mechanical Intermediate £35k - £45k (experience dependant):

Key duties

• Develop mechanical building-services designs from concept through to detailed design.
• Undertake heating, cooling, ventilation, domestic water and drainage calculations.
• Size and select mechanical plant, equipment, ductwork and pipework.
• Produce and review mechanical drawings, schematics, specifications and equipment schedules.
• Coordinate mechanical services with electrical, public health, architectural and structural designs.
• Attend design-team meetings, coordination workshops and site inspections.
• Review contractor technical submissions and respond to RFIs.
• Assist with surveys of existing buildings and prepare associated reports.
• Support senior engineers while taking responsibility for allocated areas and smaller projects.
• Ensure designs comply with current Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance and relevant British Standards.

Experience and skills

• Approximately 3–5 years’ experience in mechanical building-services design.
• Experience working for an MEP consultancy or similar design organisation.
• Good knowledge of HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling and domestic water systems.
• Able to undertake calculations and develop practical, coordinated design solutions.
• Experience producing specifications, schedules, technical reports and design information.
• Familiarity with software such as IES, Hevacomp, H2X or equivalent would be beneficial.
• Experience working with AutoCAD and Revit would be advantageous.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to manage allocated tasks and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Relevant mechanical or building-services qualification.
• Progress toward CEng or IEng status would be supported but is not essential.
