Mechanical Design Manager / Lead Designer required for a highly successful specialist MEP contractor delivering complex projects across some of London's most recognisable buildings and commercial spaces.
Salary: Circa £60,000 - £100,000 depending on experience + Annual bonus based on individual performance
Location: Central London – office and project site attendance as required (Train costs to site covered)
Required: A minimum of 8 years mechanical building services design experience is required, ideally within an MEP contractor, or M&E Fit out business. 

The projects: This is a particularly interesting opportunity for someone who wants to work on high profile London projects.
The business delivers a wide range of commercial MEP projects, from well-known commercial offices or developments, through to large scale data centres and some of London's most recognisable buildings.
They already have multiple new contracts confirmed, with further projects currently in tender ranging from approximately £1.5M to £10M.
You'll be managing a small design team of 2, with responsibility for maintaining technical standards while balancing design quality, programme, procurement and project requirements.

The Mechanical Design Manager / Lead Designer job role:
  • As the new Mechanical Design Manager / Lead Designer, you'll take technical ownership of mechanical design delivery across multiple tenders and live projects.
  • You'll lead the design process from tender stage through detailed design, procurement, installation, commissioning and final handover.
  • Helping to develop  and manage 2 Design Engineers, sharing technical knowledge and improving design standards across the team.
  • Working closely with the Operations Director, Project Managers and wider design team, you'll coordinate the workload of Design Engineers and help ensure projects are delivered accurately and to programme.
  • You'll review and provide technical assurance across HVAC, ventilation, water services and associated controls.
  • Reviewing and approving calculations, equipment selections, schematics, schedules, specifications and technical submissions.
  • Supporting and coordinating the design team, including Design Engineers, Revit Managers and Revit Technicians.
  • Leading technical and design meetings with clients, consultants, main contractors, suppliers and specialist subcontractors.
  • Managing design risks, RFIs, technical queries, approvals and design changes throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Providing technical support during installation, testing and commissioning and resolving any escalated design issues.
  • Supporting procurement by reviewing products, substitutions and alternative suppliers to ensure technical compliance.
  • Overseeing design close-out, including as-built information, O&M content and commissioning records.

The Design Engineers you'll be supporting work across areas including:
  • Hevacomp calculations, Ventilation calculations, Domestic water calculations, Above-ground drainage calculations, Hot water calculations, Legionella / Log 10 calculations, Design schedules, Design schematics, HVAC design coordination

The successful Mechanical Design Manager / Lead Designer will ideally have:
  • 8+ years' experience within mechanical building-services design
  • Strong HVAC / mechanical services design experience
  • Experience taking designs from tender through to construction and commissioning
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical building-services systems, including HVAC and water services
  • Experience reviewing or producing mechanical calculations, schematics, schedules and specifications
  • Experience coordinating design teams and managing design deliverables
  • Good understanding of design responsibility, technical risk and change control
  • Experience using Hevacomp or IES, with the ability to review Revit, AutoCAD or Navisworks information
