MECHANICAL DESIGN & PROJECT ENGINEER
Rosyth
Permanent
Mechanical Design & Project Engineer required to execute product redesign and reverse engineering, produce 2D/3D CAD models and BOMs, and solve practical manufacturing and assembly problems. This would suit a hands-on Design Engineer, Project Engineer or experienced Mechanical Draughtsperson who understands how engineered products are built.
You will join an established technical team supporting complex mechanical products from customer requirement through to manufacture and assembly.
Rather than focusing on new concepts or detailed analysis, you will take proven products and adapt them around customer dimensions, interfaces and installation constraints. You will also help resolve the smaller design, supplier, quality and shop-floor issues that can hold projects up.
THE ROLE
You will:
Adapt existing mechanical products to suit customer installations
Produce and modify 2D drawings, 3D models and assemblies
Create and maintain accurate engineering bills of materials
Interpret customer specifications, dimensions and interface information
Support the integration of hydraulic hoses, pipework and associated equipment
Investigate manufacturing and assembly problems
Provide practical engineering support to the shop floor
Work closely with production, purchasing, quality and suppliers
Assess component availability, supplier deviations and NCRs
Take technical issues through to a practical resolution
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
You should have:
Experience in mechanical design, project engineering, product engineering or mechanical draughting
Strong 2D and 3D mechanical CAD capability
Experience producing detailed drawings, assemblies and BOMs
A practical understanding of manufacturing and assembly
The confidence to investigate problems and take ownership of solutions
Good communication and organisational skills
Experience involving hydraulic equipment, hoses, pipework, fabricated structures, machined components or complex mechanical assemblies would be particularly valuable.
Applications are welcomed from apprenticeship-trained draughtspersons, HNC/HND-qualified engineers and degree-qualified Mechanical Engineers. Relevant practical experience is more important than the particular route you have taken into engineering.
This is NOT a calculations, FEA or conceptual-design position. It is best suited to someone who enjoys CAD, product adaptation, manufacturing support and solving real engineering problems.
The successful candidate will work on-site throughout the initial three-month training and product-familiarisation period. The position will remain predominantly site-based thereafter, although occasional homeworking flexibility may be available.
Please note that our client is unfortunately unable to offer visa sponsorship. We can therefore only progress applications from candidates who already have permanent, unrestricted and non-time-limited eligibility to work in the UK.
