An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced mechanical / electro mechanical Research & Development Technology Engineer to join an innovative engineering and R&D team focused on developing new products.

As a mechanical engineer or electro mechanical engineer you will work at the front end of research and development, where you will transform early-stage ideas into working proof-of-concept devices. A mechanical engineer you will play a key role in exploring new technologies through creative problem-solving, rapid prototyping, experimental testing, modelling and engineering analysis.

As electro mechanical engineer this role is about developing entirely new technologies, reducing technical risk and generating the engineering evidence needed to support future product development.

As mechanical engineer you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including engineering, industrial design, science, prototyping, product stewardship, project management and external technology partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead front-end R&D technology workstreams from concept through to technical proof of feasibility.
  • Design, build and develop proof-of-concept devices, prototypes, test rigs and experimental equipment.
  • Apply first-principles engineering, physics, modelling and practical engineering judgement to solve complex technical challenges.
  • Plan, execute and analyse experimental testing programmes, using results to refine designs and guide future development.
  • Produce engineering calculations, modelling and technical analysis to support design decisions.
  • Identify technical risks and implement practical solutions to reduce uncertainty.
  • Work closely with internal specialists, suppliers and external technology partners to accelerate innovation.
  • Support intellectual property awareness by identifying potential patent opportunities and maintaining confidentiality of technical developments.
  • Present technical findings through reports, presentations, design reviews and engineering documentation.
  • Capture and document technical learning to enable successful transfer into future product development programmes.

Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Electro-Mechanical Engineering or Physics
  • Experience within an engineering R&D, technology development or product innovation environment.
  • Experience using 3D CAD solid works AutoCAD and engineering drawings.
  • Developing new technologies – with hands-on prototyping capability
  • Hands-on prototyping, mechanical assembly and experimental engineering.
  • Designing, modifying and troubleshooting prototype hardware, fixtures or test equipment.
  • Applying engineering calculations, physics, modelling or simulation to solve technical problems.
  • Managing technical work packages or small engineering projects with minimal supervision.
  • Understanding of rapid prototyping and manufacturing techniques.
  • Strong analytical skills supported by engineering calculations or modelling.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys taking ideas from concept to reality, thrives on solving complex technical challenges and wants to play a key role in developing innovative technologies for future products.
