Our client, ISS, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join a prestigious private boarding school estate, set within extensive grounds and diverse learning environments.

This is a site-based position requiring a mechanically biased engineer who can act as a key point of contact for both the client and site stakeholders while delivering planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities.

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced facilities or building services professional who can work independently, manage contractors and suppliers, identify opportunities for additional works, and support the continued development of the contract.

​The role offers the potential to evolve into a Small Works Manager position with future responsibility for leading an on-site engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake all aspects of mechanical maintenance, repairs and installation works across the site.
  • Deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM), testing, breakdown response and reactive repairs within agreed timescales.
  • Diagnose faults, carry out repairs and recommend suitable spares and materials.
  • Act as the site point of contact for maintenance activities, providing excellent customer service to the client.
  • Service and maintain air handling plant, ventilation systems, heating, cooling and associated building services equipment.
  • Lead and coordinate small works and project activities, obtaining quotations and providing technical advice to the customer.
  • Manage subcontractors and suppliers on site, ensuring compliance with safe systems of work and reviewing completed works.
  • Complete maintenance records, log sheets and job updates accurately through the helpdesk system.

Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications

  • Background within Facilities Management, Building Services or a similar maintenance environment.
  • Strong knowledge of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities.
  • Experience maintaining building services plant and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
  • Experience overseeing subcontractors and supply chain partners.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to identify, scope and support additional works and project opportunities.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Mechanical qualification preferred; electrically qualified engineers with suitable building services experience will also be considered.
