Mechanical Engineer (Plant Machinery) opportunity with one of the UK's leading independent suppliers of waste balers and compactors.
Location
This role is based on site in Knaresborough, with occasional opportunity to support field service engineers with installations, commissioning or more complex repairs when additional resource is required.

Key responsibilities:
The Mechanical Engineer (Plant Machinery) will:
- Inspect and assess used balers and compactors.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and basic electrical faults.
- Refurbish machinery to a high standard.
- Carry out service, repairs and preventative maintenance.
- Replace worn or damaged components.
- Complete final testing before machines leave the workshop.
- Carry out MIG welding and fabrication where required.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Complete digital inspection and refurbishment reports.
- Work closely with colleagues across the business to deliver quality machines on time.
- Occasionally support field engineers on customer sites.
Mechanical Engineer Experience:
Previous experience with waste balers and compactors isn't essential – we are looking for someone with transferable engineering skills and the right attitude to learn.
This role could suit someone with experience working on plant machinery, forklift trucks, agricultural equipment, HGVs, industrial machinery or within a mechanical maintenance environment.
Essential
- Good mechanical engineering skills.
- Experience fault finding and repairing industrial or mobile machinery.
- Some experience working with hydraulic systems.
- Basic electrical knowledge.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- MIG welding and fabrication experience.
- Experience working on balers or compactors.
- Forklift licence
