We are recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a professional Facilities Management team supporting a busy healthcare environment in York.

βš™οΈ This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Mechanical Engineer with strong experience across mechanical building services, planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, fault finding and repairs.

πŸ₯ Working within a healthcare environment, you will play an important role in ensuring essential mechanical systems, plant and building services remain safe, compliant, reliable and fully operational.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across a range of mechanical systems and equipment, responding to breakdowns, identifying faults and supporting the ongoing reliability of critical site services.

πŸ”§ Responsibilities & Duties

β€’ πŸ› οΈ Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across the site.

β€’ βš™οΈ Maintain, inspect and repair a range of mechanical building services, plant and equipment.

β€’ πŸ” Diagnose mechanical faults and undertake effective repairs to minimise downtime and disruption.

β€’ 🧠 Carry out detailed fault finding, troubleshooting and basic root cause investigations.

β€’ πŸ“‹ Complete mechanical maintenance in accordance with planned maintenance schedules, SFG20 requirements and site procedures.

β€’ 🚨 Respond promptly to mechanical breakdowns, defects and maintenance requests.

β€’ πŸ’§ Maintain and repair pumps, motors, valves and associated mechanical equipment.

β€’ 🌑️ Support the maintenance of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems and other mechanical building services.

β€’ πŸ”© Inspect mechanical plant and equipment and identify potential defects, failures or maintenance requirements.

β€’ πŸ“… Ensure PPM tasks are completed within agreed timescales and to the required quality and compliance standards.

β€’ 🦺 Ensure all works are carried out safely and in accordance with Health & Safety legislation, company procedures, site requirements and safe systems of work.

β€’ πŸ“‘ Follow relevant RAMS, permits and risk assessments when carrying out maintenance activities.

β€’ πŸ’» Complete accurate maintenance records, job sheets and technical documentation.

β€’ πŸ“Š Update and maintain records on the CAFM system following completion of maintenance activities.

β€’ 🀝 Work closely with specialist contractors, engineers and site personnel to support effective maintenance delivery.

β€’ πŸ”Ž Assist with statutory inspections, compliance activities and engineering audits where required.

β€’ 🧰 Ensure tools, equipment, materials and spare parts are used appropriately and maintained in good condition.

β€’ πŸ“ˆ Support the identification of recurring faults and opportunities to improve equipment reliability and maintenance performance.

β€’ βš™οΈ Proven experience working as a Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, Mechanical Technician or in a similar mechanical maintenance role.

β€’ πŸ”§ Strong practical experience in mechanical maintenance within Facilities Management, Building Services, Healthcare, Commercial, Industrial or a similar environment.

β€’ πŸ› οΈ Proven experience carrying out both PPM and reactive maintenance.

β€’ πŸ” Strong mechanical fault-finding, diagnostic and problem-solving skills.

β€’ βš™οΈ Practical experience maintaining mechanical building services and associated plant.

β€’ πŸ”© Experience working with pumps, motors, valves and other mechanical equipment.

β€’ 🌑️ Experience with heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems would be highly beneficial.

β€’ 🏒 Knowledge and practical experience of mechanical building services.

β€’ πŸŽ“ Relevant mechanical engineering qualification such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC or equivalent.

β€’ 🦺 Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements within an engineering and maintenance environment.

β€’ πŸ“‘ Knowledge of RAMS, risk assessments, permits and safe systems of work.

β€’ πŸ“‹ Good understanding of statutory compliance and maintenance requirements.

β€’ πŸ’» Ability to complete maintenance records and technical documentation accurately.
