The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join a well-established and rapidly growing M&E contractor specialising in commercial fit-out, retail, refurbishment and installation projects across the UK.
Operating nationwide, the business delivers complete mechanical and electrical solutions from concept through to completion, working with some of the UK's best-known commercial and retail clients. Due to continued growth, they are looking to strengthen their pre-construction team with the addition of a commercially minded Mechanical Estimator.
This is a hybrid role based from the Castleford office, with occasional travel and overnight stays required to support projects and client meetings.
The Role
As a Mechanical Estimator, you'll play a key role in securing new business by producing accurate, competitive and commercially viable estimates for a variety of mechanical installation projects.
Working closely with the wider pre-construction and operational teams, you'll ensure tenders are submitted to the highest standard whilst identifying opportunities to maximise project value.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed mechanical estimates, material take-offs and cost plans.
- Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
- Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Produce competitive tender submissions within required deadlines.
- Analyse project risks, market rates and value engineering opportunities.
- Liaise with clients, suppliers and internal project teams throughout the tender process.
- Support successful handover of awarded projects to the delivery team.
- Maintain strong commercial relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Contribute to continuous improvement within the estimating function.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience as a Mechanical Estimator within the building services, M&E or construction sector.
- Strong understanding of commercial mechanical installations.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent commercial awareness and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Confident using estimating software and Microsoft Office.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Qualifications
- GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
- HNC/HND or BTEC in Mechanical Engineering or Construction (desirable).
- Degree qualification or professional membership would be advantageous.
