We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Fitter to join our growing team working within the railway industry. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanical professional to work on rolling stock, rail infrastructure, and associated equipment, helping to maintain the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance across the rail network.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct mechanical fitting, assembly, maintenance, overhaul, and repair activities on rail vehicles and associated equipment.
- Diagnose faults and undertake corrective maintenance to minimise downtime.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and maintenance manuals.
- Perform inspections and testing to ensure equipment meets operational and safety standards.
- Replace and repair mechanical components including braking systems, bogies, couplers, suspension systems, and pneumatic equipment.
- Complete maintenance records and documentation accurately.
- Work in accordance with company procedures, railway standards, and health & safety regulations.
- Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and operational teams to ensure maintenance targets are achieved.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to a positive safety culture.
Essential
- Mechanical Fitter, Mechanical Technician, or equivalent engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, Apprenticeship or similar).
- Previous experience in a mechanical fitting or maintenance environment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Strong fault-finding and critical thinking skills.
- Good understanding of health and safety practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Full UK Driving Licence (desirable depending on location).
- Willing to travel (company van provided)
- Willing to work outdoors in all weather (PPE provided)
- Previous experience within the rail, rolling stock, heavy engineering, automotive, aerospace, or manufacturing sectors.
- Knowledge of railway maintenance standards and procedures.
- Experience of working in a Railway environment is an advantage.
- Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, braking systems, and rotating equipment.
- Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification.
