Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for Mechanical Fitter on a 10 Month Contract, based in Aberdeenshire.

Role Summary

The Mechanical Fitter (Cat 1) is responsible for supporting the site team in the safe and efficient delivery of mechanical installation activities on high-voltage electrical infrastructure projects. Working under the direction of the Site Supervisor or Chargehand, the role requires a strong commitment to health, safety, quality, and environmental standards while contributing to the successful completion of project milestones.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the site team, ensuring all mechanical installation activities are completed to the required quality standards, within programme, and in accordance with client procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with mechanical installation activities on site in accordance with project requirements.
  • Follow all Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety (QEHS) procedures and site-specific rules communicated during site induction.
  • Carry out work safely, efficiently, and to the required industry and quality standards.
  • Complete tasks allocated by the Site Supervisor or Chargehand within agreed timescales, highlighting any potential delays or issues as early as possible.
  • Support the completion of project documentation and quality records in line with project milestones.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping across the work area.
  • Work effectively as part of a team whilst also demonstrating the ability to work independently when required.

Key Objectives

  • Consistently adhere to all site rules, procedures, and permit requirements.
  • Promote and maintain a positive health, safety, environmental, and quality culture on site.
  • Deliver mechanical installation activities safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.
  • Support the successful completion of project milestones by meeting programme requirements.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to identifying risks, resolving issues, and improving site performance.

Requirements

Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • A recognised Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship with a minimum NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds qualification in a relevant discipline, together with at least one year's post-qualification experience; or
  • An industry-recognised mechanical qualification with a minimum of two years' experience working within the Electricity Supply Industry, Power Generation, Oil & Gas, or other heavy industrial construction environments.
  • Experience working on National Grid, SSE, SP Energy Networks (SPEN), or similar high-voltage substation projects.
  • A good understanding of health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements within live or construction substation environments.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary site team.

Qualifications & Certifications

Essential:

CSCS Card or CCNSG Safety Passport.

National Grid Competent Person – NSI6.

National Grid Competent Person – NSI8 (Limited).

Category 1 Site Authorisation.

Telehandler Operator certification.

360° Roto Telehandler certification.

Additional National Grid or DNO authorisations.
