The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for a Mechanically Biased Maintenance Engineer to join an established manufacturing business at their site in Preston.
Working alongside the wider engineering and production team, you’ll provide mechanical engineering support across a range of automated filling and production equipment within a clean, modern manufacturing environment.
This is a hands-on position covering reactive maintenance, PPMs and general equipment support. You’ll also work closely with production and line-setting teams, so the role will suit an engineer who is happy getting involved with machinery set-up and adjustments alongside more traditional maintenance responsibilities.
The business invests significantly in its manufacturing operations, with opportunities for engineers to develop their skills, support larger improvement and CAPEX projects, and progress into more multi-skilled or project-focused engineering positions.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out reactive and planned mechanical maintenance across production equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical faults and minimise production downtime.
- Support the set-up, adjustment and efficient running of production machinery.
- Work closely with line setters and production teams to resolve equipment issues.
- Maintain and repair mechanical components, including pneumatic systems and associated equipment.
- Complete planned preventative maintenance and routine equipment checks.
- Identify recurring faults and support improvements to equipment reliability.
- Assist the wider engineering team with improvement and project work where required.
- Maintain high standards of health, safety and engineering best practice.
About You
The ideal candidate will be a mechanically biased Maintenance Engineer or Technician with experience working within a manufacturing or production environment.
You should have:
- Strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding skills.
- Experience carrying out reactive and planned maintenance on production machinery.
- A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to support machinery set-up and adjustments.
- Experience working with automated manufacturing or production equipment.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work closely with both engineering and production teams.
- A proactive and reliable approach to maintenance and equipment reliability.
- The ability to work independently as well as part of a wider team.
Experience within FMCG, pharmaceutical, food or other automated manufacturing environments would be advantageous, although engineers from other manufacturing backgrounds will also be considered.
Due to the site location and shift times, you will need to drive and have access to your own vehicle.
If you're a mechanically biased engineer looking for a stable Monday–Friday role with good overtime opportunities and the chance to develop into more advanced engineering and project work, we'd be keen to hear from you.
