Location: Ash Vale

Salary: £42,000 - £45,000 per annum (DOE)

Hours: 39 hours per week (Mon–Thu 07:30 to 16:00, Fri 07:30 to 15:00)

Syntech Recruitment are partnering with a specialist manufacturing business in Ash Vale to recruit a hands-on Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join their engineering team.

The role offers involvement in the mechanical build and installation of bespoke machinery both on-site and internationally.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring site reliability, minimising downtime, and supporting continuous improvement across the facility by maintaining equipment ranging from vintage 1950s machinery to modern automated lines.

Mechanical Maintenance Engineer Responsibilities

Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs across a wide range of machinery.

Maintain and repair plant machinery and auxiliary equipment across the site, including grinding, milling, and turning machines, sintering furnaces, and dedicated wire-making lines.

Actively participate in the mechanical assembly and build of bespoke welding machines at the factory for testing.

Assist with the installation and commissioning of bespoke machinery at customer sites globally when required.

Take full ownership of the site-wide maintenance schedule and implement a robust PPM program to reduce reactive downtime.

Maintain site infrastructure and ensure all plant and auxiliary equipment is fully operational.

Proactively identify and implement mechanical and electrical continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, reduce downtime, and increase efficiency.

Work closely with the maintenance team and heads of production to prioritize workloads and ensure smooth operations.

Ensure all work is carried out in line with health and safety standards.

Mechanical Maintenance Engineer Requirements

Strong hands-on mechanical background with proven experience maintaining manual and CNC machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders) within a manufacturing or engineering environment.

Time-served apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant Level 3 NVQ / City & Guilds qualification.

Previous experience in a supervisory or team lead role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.

Ability to diagnose complex mechanical faults and carry out effective repairs across both vintage and modern equipment.

Basic electrical knowledge or willingness to support basic electrical improvements is advantageous.

Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, “hands-on” attitude.

Ability to manage a varied workload and work under pressure.

Desirable Skills

Experience working with sintering furnaces or thermal processing equipment.

Experience with complex production lines, dedicated wire-making lines, or automated machinery.

Familiarity with control panels or electrical systems.

What’s On Offer

£42,000 – £45,000 per annum (DOE), paid weekly (overtime available on occasion as needed).

39-hour working week: Monday to Thursday 07:30 – 16:00 (30-min unpaid lunch), Friday 07:30 – 15:00.

25 days annual leave.
