We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Fitter to join a well-established heavy manufacturing business. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically skilled engineer looking to work within a challenging, high-volume industrial environment where reliability, safety and continuous improvement are key.

You will play a vital role in maintaining a wide range of heavy industrial machinery and production equipment, ensuring maximum plant availability and minimising costly production downtime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned, preventative and reactive mechanical maintenance across the manufacturing site.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical faults on heavy production machinery and plant.
  • Work on equipment including conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, bearings, hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanical drive systems.
  • Respond quickly to breakdowns and minimise production downtime.
  • Carry out inspections and identify potential equipment failures before they occur.
  • Strip, overhaul, repair and rebuild mechanical equipment.
  • Assist with the installation, modification and commissioning of new and existing machinery.
  • Support continuous improvement and reliability initiatives across the site.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and update the CMMS system.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with company health & safety procedures.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have:

  • A recognised Mechanical Engineering qualification, such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working as a Mechanical Maintenance Fitter/Engineer within heavy manufacturing, engineering or an industrial environment.
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience working with bearings, gearboxes, pumps, conveyors, hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • The ability to read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings.
  • Experience carrying out planned and preventative maintenance.
  • A proactive approach to fault finding and continuous improvement.
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure within a demanding production environment.
  • A strong commitment to health & safety.
