Job Title: Mechanical Maintenance Technician

Location: Avonmouth, Bristol (South West)

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000

Permanent | Full time | Site based

Sector: oil & gas, chemical processing, energy, petrochemical, or other process industries.

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join a growing industrial operation at a major LPG storage and export facility in Avonmouth. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in maintaining the reliability, safety, and efficiency of critical process plant equipment within a highly regulated environment.

Reporting to the Senior Maintenance Supervisor, you will be responsible for carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance activities, supporting ongoing plant operations, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance activities across site equipment and assets.
  • Fault find, diagnose, and repair mechanical systems to minimise downtime and maximise plant reliability.
  • Utilise CMMS systems to manage maintenance activities, record findings, and track asset performance.
  • Conduct inspections and condition assessments of mechanical equipment.
  • Work closely with operations teams to identify equipment reliability improvements and preventative maintenance solutions.
  • Source replacement parts and coordinate repairs where required.
  • Supervise specialist contractors and ensure work is completed safely and to required standards.
  • Assist with maintenance planning, shutdown activities, and project work.
  • Ensure compliance with all site health, safety, environmental, and permit-to-work procedures.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and technical reports.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A recognised Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of 5 years' post-apprenticeship maintenance experience within an industrial environment.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience working with mechanical plant equipment and maintenance management systems.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • A proactive approach to safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently or within a team.

Desirable Experience

  • HNC, NVQ, or higher engineering qualification.
  • Experience within oil & gas, chemical processing, energy, petrochemical, or other process industries.
  • Knowledge of condition monitoring techniques and lubrication bestpractices.
  • Experience interpreting P&IDs and engineering drawings.
  • Understanding of Written Schemes of Examination (WSEs), pressure systems, and relevant industry codes of practice.
