Mechanical Project Engineer required
We are currently looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer in Birmingham for a tier 1 M&E contractor. Responsible for the Mechanical aspects of the project from handover from the Estimating Dept. up to and including final account. Reporting directly to the Project Manager, the Project Mechanical Engineer is responsible for ensuring the Mechanical elements of the project are delivered on time, within budget, on quality, technically correct and fully functional.
- Liaise closely with the Project Manager on all Mechanical facets to agree an early Mechanical strategy for the project.
- Take the lead (but always discuss with PM) with the procurement of Mechanical plant/equipment and sub-contract/specialist package orders. Prepare subcontractor enquiry documents in conjunction with the project QS and evaluate submitted bids for compliance with project requirements and commercial risk.
- Ensure you have full knowledge of Project Specification and VE changes and are fully conversant with what we are contracted to provide.
- Liaise with client design team on pre-designed projects and operate the RFI log to request additional information/clarification as necessary.
- Liaise with client, when requested by Project Manager, both in meetings and generally – ambassador for the company.
- Regularly apprise the Project Manager of site issues / installation concerns. Quality
- Ensure that key ‘Hold Points’ are incorporated into any installation sequencing to allow final Technical and Quality Inspections to take place prior to wall/void/ceiling closures.
- Ensure production of initial ‘As Fitted’ drawings take place at the appropriate time such as when the above inspections occur.
- At every opportunity, drive for the adoption of Benchmarking/Mock-ups for all standard areas of installation such as Dist. Board cupboards, Risers, corridors etc, to agree theTechnical and Quality standards of the installation with the client and our Supervisors and Operatives.
- Ensure a suitable Inspection and Testing Plan (ITP) regime is in place and operating to record all required information in accordance with the Specification requirements and the PM/Quantity Surveyors needs.
- Inform the Technical Department of any concerns you may have as to the quality and standards of our installation.
- Operate in accordance with the company Quality Assurance System.
- You are responsible for the Engineering & Technical Compliance of the Mechanical installation. Liaise with the Mechanical Compliance Manager, Technical Manager and/or Design Dept. as necessary to ensure we achieve a ‘Right First Time’ result.
- Where the project is pre-designed, arrange with the PM, workshop meetings with clients design team to address and resolve issues to allow viable Working Drawings to be produced. Record all outcomes with QS (programme and cost effects) and ensure that the client is aware of changes/extras via the PM and QS.
- Early production of Mechanical plant/equipment procurement schedule liaising with Designers/Technical Dept./Client Design Team, as necessary.
- Liaise with Mechanical Compliance Manager to ensure that all developed installation solutions are in full compliance with the latest regulations.
- Liaise with the Mechanical Engineer to ensure that all Mechanical Equipment that requires Mechanical connection has been fully coordinated and provision for Mechanical supplies made. This must include detailed connections of specialist plant and BMS interfaces. Particular emphasis should be paid to operational interface requirements with Life Safety Systems (i.e., plant shutdown, smoke extract and staircase pressurisation systems).
- Ensure technical compliance and performance of any variations introduced to the project.
- Assist PM / SM in TIMELY production of O&M Manuals (usually 1 month prior to handover). Contractual
- Liaise / assist PM with contractual records. Think about WHAT to record, WHEN to record it and WHO to record it to!
- Assist PM in production of the contract programme as requested.(Mechanical elements)
- Assist PM with monitoring actual progress against programmed events.
The Salary is £60,000 - £75,000 + Package
