About the Opportunity
An established and highly respected mechanical building services contractor is looking to recruit an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join its growing Projects team.
Operating across London, the South East and surrounding regions, the business delivers a diverse range of commercial mechanical installation, refurbishment and fit-out projects across sectors including healthcare, education, commercial, industrial and public sector environments.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong mechanical background who enjoys taking ownership of projects from initial enquiry through to completion. Alongside project delivery, you will also be responsible for surveying, pricing and estimating small works projects with values of up to £500,000.
The Role
As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering commercial mechanical projects from conception through to handover.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing commercial mechanical installation and refurbishment projects from pre-start through to completion.
- Carrying out site surveys and preparing quotations for small works projects up to £500,000.
- Producing cost estimates, material take-offs and procurement schedules.
- Coordinating labour, subcontractors, suppliers and specialist contractors.
- Managing project programmes, budgets and delivery timescales.
- Liaising with clients, consultants and site teams throughout each stage of the project.
- Reviewing technical drawings, specifications and contract documentation.
- Supporting procurement of plant, materials and specialist equipment.
- Monitoring project costs, variations and commercial performance.
- Ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
- Managing commissioning activities, project documentation and final handover.
- Building and maintaining long-term relationships with clients and supply chain partners.
Typical Projects
Projects are predominantly within occupied commercial environments and may include:
Plant room refurbishments and upgrades.
Commercial boiler replacements.
LTHW heating installations and modifications.
Commercial plumbing installations.
Pipefitting and welded pipework systems.
Commercial gas installations.
Mechanical plant replacement.
Building services retrofit projects.
CAT A & CAT B fit-outs.
Mechanical infrastructure improvements.
Energy efficiency and refurbishment programmes.
Project values typically range from small reactive works through to projects valued in excess of £500,000.
Experience Required
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience delivering commercial mechanical building services projects.
- A strong background within commercial installation, refurbishment or fit-out environments.
- Experience with LTHW heating systems, commercial plumbing, pipework and commercial gas installations.
- Good understanding of plant room installations and mechanical infrastructure.
- Experience estimating and pricing mechanical small works projects.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Strong commercial awareness with experience managing project costs and variations.
- Experience coordinating site teams, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- A proactive approach with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Qualifications
Essential
Experience within Mechanical Building Services.
Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services.
SMSTS or SSSTS.
CSCS Card.
Commercial Gas qualifications.
First Aid at Work.
