We are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Stress Engineer to join our Commercial Modifications Engineering team in Europe on a contract / contingent basis. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the certification of aircraft interior modifications, supporting high-profile programmes within a flexible, global engineering environment.

About the Role
As a contracted specialist, you will be responsible for delivering structural substantiation documentation for aircraft interior modifications, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal design organisation procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver structural substantiation and certification activities for aircraft interior modification programmes
  • Identify certification requirements and define substantiation approaches in collaboration with global teams
  • Produce and review high-quality stress reports and supporting documentation, including:
    • Seating installations
    • Cabin monuments (galleys, lavatories, dividers, premium suites, VVIP interiors)
    • Cabin reconfigurations (LOPAs, PSUs, LRU installations)
    • Related structural considerations (e.g., fuselage interfaces, antenna installations)
    • Develop detailed calculations, load paths, and justification aligned with regulatory expectations
    • Support customer-facing certification milestones (ITCM, PDR, CDR, FAI)
    • Ensure all outputs are auditable, traceable, and certification-ready
    • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement

Typical Deliverables

  • Complete structural substantiation reports aligned with certification plans
  • Hand calculation packages and FEA models/results
  • Certification compliance matrices, load cases, and assumptions records



Required Experience & Skills

  • Degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 5+ years' experience in aircraft structures/stress analysis
  • Proven track record delivering modification substantiation, ideally within interiors
  • Strong expertise in:
    • Classical stress analysis and hand calculations
    • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools and methodologies
    • Authoring certification-ready technical documentation
  • Working knowledge of EASA/FAA airworthiness requirements (CS-25, FAR 25, etc.)
  • Experience with a Part 21J Design Organisation (or equivalent) is highly desirable
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent programmes
