Location: Culham

Contract Length: 12 Months

Working Pattern: Full-time onsite

IR35 Status: Inside IR35

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Technician to support shutdown, maintenance and installation activities within a highly regulated engineering environment.

The primary focus of the role will be supporting a specialist mechanical assembly team during planned shutdown periods, including preparation and execution activities. In addition, the successful candidate will provide broader mechanical support across plant systems as required.

The role involves working on a variety of sophisticated mechanical systems including:

  • Vacuum systems
  • Cooling systems
  • Pressurised systems
  • Electro-magnetic systems

Responsibilities will include installation, maintenance, fault finding, repair and modification of both existing and new systems.

As a Mechanical Technician, you will also be expected to supervise mechanical fitters and junior craft personnel where required. Duties will vary depending on operational requirements and individual experience.

Key Responsibilities

Support maintenance, improvements and modification activities across plant systems

Undertake mechanical assembly, installation and repair activities

Carry out fault finding and maintenance on operational systems

Support large installation programmes during shutdowns and interventions

Assist with preparation and execution of shutdown activities

Compile work packages and produce maintenance/testing documentation

Prepare safe systems of work and support risk assessment activities

Support major engineering and infrastructure projects

Supervise mechanical fitters, contractors and junior craft personnel

Maintain high standards of safety, housekeeping and professionalism

Ensure compliance with regulatory and site safety requirements

Work in accordance with Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015

Support Plant Responsible Officers (PRO) and deputies as required

Essential Requirements

  • Recognised Mechanical Apprenticeship or equivalent
  • Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification
  • Experience within an industrial mechanical maintenance and assembly environment

Experience working to:

  • Written Safe Systems of Work
  • Method Statements
  • Risk Assessments

Ability to work independently within a high-hazard environment

Strong practical mechanical engineering skills

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working with vacuum systems
  • Understanding of electrical/mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of modern manufacturing techniques
  • Experience supervising teams or contractors
