Mechanical Test Engineer

A great opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Test Technician / Mechanical Test Engineer to join a specialist engineering test facility in Fareham. This role suits a hands‑on technician or mechanical test engineer with experience in laboratory testing, vibration systems, climatic chambers and electronic data capture.

You'll work within a dedicated team delivering high‑quality environmental testing services across multiple industry sectors. The position is ideal for a detail‑driven mechanical test engineer who enjoys problem‑solving, working to defined standards, and contributing to continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting mechanical testing to defined standards and test plans
  • Operating vibration shaker and climatic test equipment
  • Recording results using electronic logbook systems and producing clear test reports
  • Working directly with customers during attended testing
  • Supporting the development of test plans and test methods
  • Liaising with supervisors to ensure accurate, timely completion of work
  • Contributing to process improvements and documentation updates

Essential Experience

  • Experience in a test laboratory environment

Highly Desirable

  • Practical experience operating vibration shaker equipment
  • Experience delivering climatic testing
  • Understanding of laboratory quality procedures

Desirable Attributes

  • Motivated, enthusiastic and willing to learn
  • Flexible approach to overtime, ad‑hoc shifts or customer‑site work
  • Strong numerical, logical and analytical skills
  • Good IT capability (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team to defined deadlines
  • Clear communicator with strong customer‑facing skills
