About the Role
We are seeking a caring, calm and organised Medical Officer & Attendance Support to join a supportive Special Educational Needs (SEN) school for young people aged 11–19.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people with additional needs in a nurturing and therapeutic environment. You will play a key role in ensuring students' medical needs are managed safely, attendance is monitored effectively, and every student feels safe, supported and ready to learn.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first aid and respond appropriately to medical emergencies.
- Support students with medical conditions and additional healthcare needs.
- Administer and manage medication safely, maintaining accurate records.
- Develop, implement and review Individual Healthcare Plans.
- Monitor student attendance and follow up on unexplained or concerning absences.
- Liaise with parents, carers, healthcare professionals and external agencies.
- Coordinate vaccinations, medical appointments and other health-related arrangements.
- Ensure students' medical needs are considered during school trips and activities.
- Support staff in understanding and managing students' individual healthcare requirements.
- Maintain first-aid supplies, medical equipment and emergency procedures.
- Keep medical, welfare and attendance records accurate, confidential and up to date.
- Promote student wellbeing and contribute to a safe, inclusive and supportive school environment.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will be compassionate, patient and confident in supporting young people with additional needs.
You should have:
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
- A caring and approachable manner when working with students.
- The ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
- A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
- The ability to work independently while recognising when to seek guidance.
- A genuine commitment to supporting students' health, wellbeing and educational progress.
A first-aid qualification is desirable, although candidates willing to undertake relevant training will also be considered. Previous experience in healthcare support, medication management, attendance monitoring or developing healthcare plans would be advantageous.
Experience working within a school, SEN provision or a similar setting would be beneficial.
