Medical Records Co-Ordinator, St Georges

Menlo Park

Medical Records Co-ordinator – Advert

Mendip Vale Medical Group

Salary: £12.90 per hour Hours: 20 hours per week, worked over Thursday and Friday

About the role

We're looking for a methodical, detail-focused Medical Records Co-ordinator to join our records team. This is a largely administrative role, with the great majority of your time spent on accurate, independent processing work rather than direct patient contact, so it suits someone who's happy getting their head down and working through detailed tasks without needing a highly social or fast-changing environment.

You'll be joining a close, established team of 11, with a good mix of experience levels, including colleagues who've been with us a long time alongside others who value the flexible part-time hours.

What you'll be doing

  • Updating and maintaining patient medical records, from registering new patients through to deactivating records when they leave
  • Handling patient requests to access their own medical records
  • Supporting authorised access requests from insurance companies
  • Reading, coding and accurately logging correspondence, both paper and electronic
  • Using anatomical and physiological knowledge to apply the correct codes and link related information on a patient's record
  • Keeping all patient files and related admin to the required quality standards, in line with information governance, GDPR and DPA regulations

What we're looking for

Essential:

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above (or equivalent experience), plus evidence of ongoing personal development
  • Medical terminology and coding experience
  • Experience working within an NHS environment relevant to accurate data recording
  • Good general IT skills, including Word, Excel, email and databases
  • Able to prioritise and manage competing demands while hitting deadlines
  • Tact and sensitivity, with the ability to build trust and confidence
  • Strong, adaptable communication across different audiences
  • Patient-focused, compassionate, resilient and flexible

Desirable:

  • NVQ3 in Administration (or working towards)
  • Experience implementing service improvements involving clinical data
  • Experience using GP clinical systems such as EMIS
  • Understanding of medical terminology and basic anatomy and physiology
  • Self-directed, calm under pressure, positive, and a strong team player

Why join us

  • A steady, focused role well suited to someone who prefers independent, detail-driven work over a highly social or patient-facing environment
  • A supportive, experienced team, with colleagues on hand to help you learn the systems
  • Fixed, predictable hours over Thursday and Friday, working well alongside other commitments

Mendip Vale Medical Group is committed to equality and diversity, and welcomes applications from all backgrounds.
