Mental Health Assistant - Stroud

Salary: £90 - £105 per day (dependent on experience)

Location: Stroud

Job Type: Full-time

Hours: Full Time (8:30am - 4:00pm)

Are you passionate about supporting young people's mental health and wellbeing? Are you looking to gain hands-on experience within a mainstream education setting supporting students with additional needs?

Academics are currently recruiting for a Mental Health Assistant to join a school in Stroud. This rewarding role involves supporting students with a range of social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, alongside a range of complex needs, autism and associated learning differences, within a supportive environment.

The Role - Mental Health Assistant - Stroud

  • Support students with emotional regulation, wellbeing, and engagement in learning
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual needs
  • Assist with behaviour strategies and promote positive coping mechanisms
  • Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals

What We're Looking For - Mental Health Assistant

  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
  • Experience supporting SEN, SEMH, or challenging behaviour
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Interest in mental health, SEN, and child development
  • Psychology, counselling, education, or related background desirable
  • Previous experience with young people or mental health beneficial but not essential

Ideal Backgrounds (not essential)

  • Psychology graduates or related degrees
  • Youth work / support work / care background
  • Experience in PRUs, alternative provision, or specialist settings
  • Team Teach / MAPA / CPI training

Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
  • Right to work in the UK
