Mental Health Teaching Assistant
Help a young person discover what they can do.
We are looking for a Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated and supportive school community, working with children and young people across both primary and secondary age groups.
This is a role where no two days are quite the same. You could be supporting a student one-to-one in the morning, helping a small group work together after lunch, and finding a creative way to re-engage a young person who has decided that today's lesson definitely isn't for them!
What will you be doing as a Mental Health Teaching Assistant?
As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will provide individualised support to students who may experience ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and co-existing mental health needs, as well as a range of challenges and barriers that can make accessing learning difficult. You will work to:
- Build confidence, independence and self-esteem
- Regulate emotions and manage challenges
- Engage with learning in ways that work for them
- Develop strategies that support their wellbeing and emotional resilience
- Celebrate their achievements - both the big milestones and the little victories!
What are we looking for in a Mental Health Teaching Assistant?
Someone who is:
- Patient and understanding
- Creative and adaptable
- Calm and resilient
- Enthusiastic
Previous experience working with children or young people with Autism, additional needs or mental health needs would be highly beneficial. Most importantly, however, we are looking for someone who genuinely wants to make a difference.
Why join us as a Mental Health Teaching Assistant?
You'll have the chance to build trusted relationships, develop your skills, learn from experienced colleagues and play a key role in helping young people overcome barriers that may have previously held them back.
