MEP Estimator

Walker & Sloan

MEP Estimator

Location UK / Project Dependent

Sector Data Centres, Defence & Energy

Salary £65,000 - £70,000 + Package

The Opportunity

A leading specialist contractor is looking to recruit an experienced MEP Estimator to strengthen its pre-construction and estimating capability across major data centre, defence and energy opportunities.

You will play a key role in shaping commercially robust solutions for complex mechanical, electrical and public health packages. Working alongside Design, Engineering, Planning and Operations teams, you will turn technical information into clear, accurate and auditable estimates that give the wider business confidence at tender stage.

Role Overview

You will review MEP drawings, specifications, schedules and performance requirements to establish the full scope of mechanical, electrical and public health services. You will identify design gaps, clarify responsibilities and build detailed estimates that account for labour, plant, materials, equipment, specialist systems and project-specific constraints.

You will engage directly with specialist subcontractors and suppliers, issuing enquiries, assessing technical capability and comparing quotations on a genuine like-for-like basis. Your role will involve challenging exclusions and assumptions, understanding lead times and making sure testing, commissioning, controls, integration, temporary services, training, spares and handover requirements are properly allowed for.

You will also work closely with design and delivery colleagues to identify buildability issues, coordination risks and opportunities for value engineering. At adjudication stage, you will present clear MEP summaries, assumptions and outstanding matters, supporting negotiations and post-tender clarifications while maintaining accurate cost intelligence for future bids.

About You

You are an experienced MEP Estimator with a strong technical understanding of mechanical, electrical and public health systems. You are comfortable interrogating drawings and specifications, completing or validating quantity take-offs and translating complex design information into reliable commercial allowances.

You have experience engaging the specialist MEP supply chain and understand how installation, commissioning and handover requirements affect both cost and programme. Data centre, defence, energy or mission-critical experience would be highly desirable, although a strong background in complex building services construction is equally relevant.

You will ideally hold an HNC, HND, degree or equivalent qualification in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline. Progress towards CIBSE, IET, RICS, CIOB or another relevant professional body would be advantageous.

Company Profile

This specialist contractor provides integrated design, construction and engineering services across the data, defence and energy sectors. With more than four decades of specialist industry experience, the business has built long-term client relationships by solving complex technical challenges and delivering high-quality outcomes from early design through to occupation.
