Job Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen to support our Advanced Manufacturing Centre as Metrologist Lead, based in Northampton.
Reporting to the Manufacturing Quality Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team of CMM Operators, Programmers and Hard Gauge Technicians to write, develop and prove out measurement programmes.
The Role:
Leading onsite metrology investigations and supporting internal and external quality concerns as appropriate.
Completing internal measuring requests and reports.
Suggesting and supporting corrective actions and measures all with the aim of improved product accuracy and compliance.
Providing support during NPI launch activities and conducting first and last article inspections, initial sample inspection reports and control plans.
Maintain excellent levels of housekeeping.
Ensure conformity to standards, production techniques and conformance to Cosworth’s Quality Management System
Consider the health and safety, environmental and energy impact of all activities.
Support the Company’s compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018 by following company policy and best practice.
Candidate Profile:
To be considered for this position candidates need to have a proven track record in:
CMM programming / measurement and as such must have experience with predominantly Zeiss Calypso 2014 and above.
Comprehensive knowledge of GD&T.
Zeiss CMM programming (curve freeform surface) experience.
Good knowledge of manufacturing processes.
Fully conversant with reading engineering & manufacturing drawings.
Experienced in base metrology (Measurement by First Principles).
Sound knowledge of GD&T (standards ISO, ASME Y 14.5, JES 161).
Sound knowledge in measurements system analysis (MSA).
Hands on experience in using all types of measuring & testing equipment, both contact – non-contact, analogue & digital.
Able to support root cause analysis and implementation of problem-solving techniques.
Working knowledge on concessions, containment procedures and traceability techniques.
Awareness of aerospace quality requirements (AS9100, various ISO).
Good knowledge of gauge R&R studies.
Good communication & interpersonal skills.

Either a graduate in Metrology FD, Mechanical Engineering/Diploma, equivalent certification or proven industry track record.
Minimum 3-8 years hands on experience in manufacturing engineering and at least 5 years’ experience in CMM programming (CALYPSO).
CMM Software: Zeiss CALYPSO.
Good working knowledge of MS Office tools: MS Excel, MS Word, MS. PowerPoint, MS Project.
Analysis tools: Minitab.
CAD tools: UG/NX (good knowledge).
Product Lifecycle Management: Teamcenter.
Desirable:
Good understanding of Aerospace Manufacturing Environment.
Hands on experience in Process planning for precision machined components – Aero components preferred.
Hands on experience in Tool design (Jigs and Fixtures).
Awareness in Nx Manufacturing.
Awareness of CNC / CAM programming.
GOM scanner experience, PC – Dmis, Mitutoyo.
Working knowledge of PC – Dmis & Mitutoyo.
