Microbiology Assistant (Laboratory) – 3 Month FTC
Location: Flint
Salary: £13.30 per hour
Hours: 42 hours per week, Monday – Friday
Contract: 3 Month Fixed-Term Contract
Innova Search & Selection are currently recruiting for a Microbiology Assistant (Laboratory) to join the Quality team of a busy manufacturing site in Flint.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with previous laboratory experience, or someone with a scientific background looking to develop their experience within a professional microbiology environment.
The successful candidate will support the effective day-to-day running of the laboratory, carrying out a variety of laboratory support, environmental monitoring, record keeping, stock control, equipment checks and general housekeeping duties.
Working Hours
The role is 42 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Typical working hours are:
Monday – Thursday: 8:00am – 4:30pm
Friday: 8:00am – 4:00pm
Key Responsibilities
As a Microbiology Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
Transferring sample information from paper records onto the relevant electronic database.
Entering laboratory test results onto Excel databases.
Preparing and issuing laboratory result mailouts where required.
Assisting with the control, monitoring and ordering of laboratory raw materials and consumables.
Receiving, checking and appropriately storing deliveries.
Checking the laboratory temperature-monitoring system and documenting or escalating any abnormalities.
Completing weekly Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) inspections within the laboratory.
Completing monthly laboratory equipment checks.
Supporting the environmental monitoring programme.
Carrying out environmental sampling, including water, air, surface swabs and applicator samples.
Completing balance verification checks using calibrated weights.
Archiving paperwork in accordance with site procedures.
Maintaining electronic records of purchase orders and delivery notes.
Completing weekly health and safety checks within the work area.
Emptying incubators and ensuring samples and waste are disposed of appropriately.
Preparing batches of laboratory media.
Preparing cleanroom buckets, water baths and equipment for autoclaving.
Assisting with end-of-day laboratory paperwork and checks.
Preparing equipment for autoclaving.
Maintaining a clean, tidy and hygienic laboratory environment.
About You
We are looking for someone who is organised, reliable and able to work accurately within a busy and structured environment.
You will ideally have:
Experience working in a busy, structured working environment.
Experience completing accurate paperwork, records or electronic data entry.
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, email and other computer-based systems.
The ability to follow written procedures, instructions and defined processes.
Good organisational and time management skills.
The ability to manage a varied workload and complete routine tasks within required timescales.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
The ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as part of a team.
A flexible and positive approach to changing situations.
High standards of cleanliness, organisation and housekeeping.
The ability to work under pressure.
A reliable, honest, enthusiastic and respectful approach.
Qualifications
GCSE standard of Maths, English and Science is required.
A-Level, BSc, HNC or HND experience within Science or a related subject would be advantageous.
Desirable Experience
Previous experience in the following areas would be beneficial but is not essential:
Working within a laboratory environment.
Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
Entering laboratory test results and maintaining sample or testing databases.
Environmental sampling, including water, air and surface swabbing.
Preparing laboratory media.
Using laboratory equipment such as incubators, autoclaves, balances and filtration equipment.
Stock control, ordering materials and receiving deliveries.
Safety & Quality
The successful candidate will be expected to work in accordance with all relevant Health & Safety procedures, company policies and GMP standards.
You will be responsible for ensuring that you only carry out tasks and operate equipment to the level of your training and competence, while promptly reporting any incidents, near misses or non-conforming results through the appropriate channels.
