At British Gypsum we're looking for a Mine Operative to work at our gypsum mine in Fauld, near Burton on Trent helping to meet our production targets and ensure we deliver for our customers on time, every time.
This Mine Operative role will be a part of the production team. You'll be working autonomously as part of a wider team, operating machinery in our oldest mine to ensure we futureproof production capabilities. British Gypsum is part of is part of Saint-Gobain Interior Solutions (SGIS). Much of Britain has been built with British gypsum. Gypsum is the vital raw material at the heart of our plaster and plasterboard, and much of it is mined, milled and made in Britain. We have been mining gypsum for more than 150 years, a heritage we're very proud of.
This is a full time role working Mon to Friday on rotating shifts (days and nights). You'll initially work a few months of days (6am until 3pm) until fully trained. You'll benefit from an early finish on a Friday, as well as a generous salary plus bonus and lots of benefits including healthcare options.
What we're looking for:
- Adaptability and common sense; this is a highly hazardous environment, so a proactivity towards health and safety is a must have
- Experience of Drill/Blast mining would be highly advantageous
- Experience in an underground mining environment or similar would be advantageous, otherwise proven competency as an operator of material handling/ heavy plant and equipment would be essential
- Openness to working underground on a shift pattern
- Willingness to learn and develop
What will I be doing in the role?:
Our Mine Operatives are integral to our success. In this role you'll:
- Be fully committed to high safety standards
- Be an integral member of the Mine Production team & operate front line production machinery (full training will be given on each piece of equipment). The machinery includes mechanised drilling and blasting, loading machines, rock transportation machinery and shovel loaders.
- Follow directions to ensure extraction width and height is in accordance with Mine Design.
